We are definitely seeing influenza in Connecticut now. While not yet widespread by CDC definitions, as of last week 231 hospitalizations in the state were attributed to flu virus. Only 6 of these were last year’s novel H1N1 strain. Flu is much more widespread in the southeast states, so we will probably be seeing more in the coming weeks. The good news, of course, is that most of these patients will do just fine, but parents should keep in mind that some patients with influenza can get quite ill, even without predisposing medical conditions. If your child is having significant respiratory symptoms, or even fevers that last more than a few days, please be sure to contact us.
