COVID is a very strange illness. While most pediatric patients have done very well, some have been severely effected. There is an increasingly recognized risk of significant cardiac disease. The specific risks are still unclear at this point but include myocarditis, arrhythmia, and even sudden death. Both the AAP and Yale Cardiology have been developing guidelines related to returning to exercise following COVID.( AAP Interim Guidance on COVID) They are evolving and likely to change as we go along, so it is probably not a good idea to get too caught up in the details right now. However, two key points are generally agreed upon:

1) All patients should be restricted from exercise for 10-14 days following the onset of symptoms, or, in the absence of symptoms, from the date of the positive test.

2) All patients should be medically cleared following COVID by history and physical exam before returning to play.

Please give the office a call if you have any questions. Or schedule an appointment if you need clearance following COVID before returning to full activity.
